Dog Explosion is Nottingham's own one man cult of electronic and vocal expression.
Created by singer / songwriter Oliver Lovley, Dog Explosion brings together the distorted sounds of electronic rock, the pumping hits n' stabs of 90's ravelation, the left wing ideologies of punk and the seasoned voice of the big band singer and mushes them all together in a paranoic outburst of furious positive energy, all with a polite smile, minimal bad language and a professional looking shirt and tie.
Lyrics are the driving force of Oliver's songs, informed by music and writers including Faith No More, Tina Turner, Erasure, Sleaford Mods, William Burroughs, Shriekback, Kate Bush, Benefits, Talking Heads, Sisters of Mercy, The Nightingales and many more. Phrases such as “golden teeth in polystyrene gums, synthetic bile breaks down the scum” and “I broke every code of the organic zone so the lips of the mainframe could swallow me whole” become strains of a desperate manifesto delivered to a congregation of lost souls reunited in life's wilderness.
To date Dog Explosion has produced three studio albums and an EP. Live appearances include The Chameleon, The Bodega, JT Soar, Rough Trade, Weird Garden, Leicester DMU, The Shed, X-Church, The Maze, Hockley Hustle, Dot to Dot, Oxjam and The Waterfront Festival.

REVIEWS:
Bassey's album review for Folk Dance Leftlion November 2022
Dog Explosion
Folk Dance (Album)
"Nottingham's eclectic, electronic eccentric Dog Explosion releases his third album on Tuesday 15 November, and I got a sneak listen for this review. Artist Oliver Lovley aka Dog Explosion, invites everyone back into his synth world, with sinister melodies and equally dark baritone vocals that demand attention. Post punk industrial sounds can be a thing of beauty and this album is a must listen for 2022.” Bassey

Bassey's album Review Leftlion May 2021
Dog Explosion
Living Life (Album)
Electro Industrial sounds underpin this album by Dog Explosion and intense lyrics delivered with calm vocals. I was immediately thinking it was the kinda sound Sleaford Mods would make if they were middle class executives living in 1984 and singing about ulcers caused by their stressful jobs in the City. Livin' Life gives us 13 tracks and anyone interested in experimental synth beats along with a slightly quieter revolution should listen to this musical eccentric.... I'm now a fan! Bassey

Alex Keene's Leftlion album review March 2019
Dog Explosion
Dog Explosion (Album)
Dog Explosion’s debut album provides an 11-track mishmash of two very popular genres: electronic and rock. Rock-style lyrics, intense and creepy, meet heavy bass backing tracks in almost every tune as the collection carries through. The album boasts solid, impressive vocals throughout; in fact, the talents of this one-man-band are clear in each aspect of these songs’ production. Where it becomes truly impressive, however, is the apparently seamless mashup of elements from genres that are usually miles apart. Standout track Action! is quicker than most, and shows exactly how enjoyable a mix-and-match electro-rock tune can be to listen to. Lyrically, this album goes a long way, from the downright creepy imagery of first track Hot Meat to the slower, steadier outlook of Generator, this isn’t a collection you can just chuck on in the background while you’re doing other things. You have to really listen; it’s what these tunes deserve. Alex Keene
